President Announcements

President Joe was pleased to turn the start of the meeting over to John B. who pinned new Rotarian, Rich F., businessman and developer. Welcome Rich!

President Joe updated the fundraiser sales. About half of the 400 tickets are out. All are encouraged to keep selling. You can pick up tickets at the Sergeant's table.

There are five RYLA applicants from the Interact club for this year's two scholarships.

Rotary day update: John B. went to the Interact meeting to sign up volunteers. All volunteers invited to participate so if you know of someone, let John know and they are very much welcome to join. Dan is working on details about the hot air balloon. The largest vendor in charge of many of the attractions is now booked! There will be a site visit next week to conceptualize the layout in more detail. Date reminder: The Rotary Fun Day is confirmed for June 11, 2016 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Taunton High School.

Guests

Bring a guest to a Rotary meeting!! A reminder, members are allowed to bring three "free" prospective members as guests to meetings. President Joe mentioned that we have room in the food budget to bring guests, so spread the word and bring a friend to a Rotary meeting!

Barbara Hunt joined as a guest of Bob Hunt.

Happy & Sad Bucks

Did you know that your happy and sad bucks help the club make a donation to the Rotary Foundation?

Bill was happy to welcome a new dog to the family and sad that on his trip home with the dog his car broke. But also happy and sad that he has a new car!
Bob offered an "informational buck" to let the club know that his upcoming speaker, Cherise Hoak, had a featured editorial in the Gazette.
Dave had a very happy buck along with his announcement of the birth of his first grand child. Also, threw in a sad buck to now be an "old timer."
John was happy to welcome a new member to the club and happy to praise all of Dave C.'s efforts in support of Rotary Day.
Rich offered inaugural happy bucks; one for joining the club and one for John buying lunch.
President Joe was happy to welcome Rich to the club and also very happy to present our new flag pole in honor of Arthur Court who would be very pleased to see it.

RI Foundation Minute

HOW DID THE ROTARY FOUNDATION GET STARTED?

The Rotary Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International’s sixth president, Arch C. Klump, as an endowment fund for Rotary “to do good in the world.” It has grown from an initial contribution in 1917 of $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri to more than one billion dollars in total contributions. The Rotary Foundation made its first grant of $500.00 to the International Society for Crippled Children in 1930, and to this day, it continues to “do good in the world” in the name of Rotary.

Program Speaker

Our speaker this past week was Hank Sennott, Director of Development for the Boys and Girls Club of Taunton. Hank spoke about the activities of the Boys and Girls Club, including their summer camp which has been growing and expanded in recent years. He also mentioned that their annual fundraising auction was coming up, but that tickets were already sold out! Hank received a Rotary mug from Joe.

This week's presentation will be a Pets report by Carol.
