Club News & Announcements

Our most recent club meeting was held on July 24, and led by President Bob.

We kicked off the meeting by awarding our final scholarship of the year to Benjamin Smith. Joined by his proud parents, Benjamin was recognized for his outstanding achievements and warmly congratulated as he prepares to begin his journey at Brown University.

President Bob shared a few other announcements with the club. Our District Governor will be visiting on August 21—please mark your calendars! We're passing the bucket to help offset the cost of our Backpack Service Project. Contributions can be made in cash or via Venmo. If using Venmo, please include a note that it's for the backpacks.

We enjoyed the latest installment of Rotary in the News with Carol Sullivan.

Please note: next week’s meeting will be an evening meeting at 5:30 PM. at Seafood and Cones.

Also, a reminder, if you have a Family Fun Day lawn sign, please bring it to an upcoming meeting—Dave is collecting them.

📅 Upcoming Events:

  • August 14: Backpack Service Project at the Raynham Flea Market
  • August 21: District Governor Visit

At Our Most Recent Meeting...

...we welcomed Heather Chew, who gave a classification talk as part of BGCMS’s corporate membership. Heather shared her role in development at the Boys & Girls Club of Metro South—a mid-career change she’s excited about and sees great potential in. She also spoke about her active involvement in her local community, including fostering animals through her local shelter and serving as an EMT at Water Wizz during the summer (alongside several family members!). Welcome, Heather—we’re thrilled to have you join us!

Rotary Around the World

From Will:
"Above is a photo that my wife took of me last week during our trip to Portugal at a Rotary monument in Cabo da Roca in Portugal, which is continental Europe’s most western point. .  The monument was placed in 1980 by the local Rotary Club (Sintra, Portugal) to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Rotary’s founding and a tribute to founder Paul Harris.  It was one of many Rotary monuments and plaques that we saw during our trip last week.  Our worldwide presence is truly amazing."

Happy & Sad Bucks

  • Joe M.  had a Mixed emotions buck: Now serving as District Treasurer. His first move was sending out the dues notice which people don't love, but he's already seen money coming in. Also, they have begun a review of district finances.

  • Dick S. had a Happy/sad buck: Mike Mitchell of MassDevelopment retired on July 11 after a wonderful 13-year partnership. She was recognized at a City Council meeting and Dick shared how meaningful she was to the city.

  • Carol Sullivan had happy bucks for the upcoming Raynham Community Day celebration. She had applications for anyone interesting in having a table--maybe Rotary?...

  • Will had a Happy buck for a recent family vacation to Paris with a stopover in Lisbon. Spotted a Rotary polio box at Orly Airport and visited the westernmost point of continental Europe, which featured a 1980 monument in commemoration of Rotary’s 75th anniversary. A great reminder that wherever you go, Rotary is there! See the photo below.

  • Ed had Happy bucks for his softball update, A softball player in Tennessee set a new world record with a 78.2 mph pitch. Also, all four levels of Taunton teams placed in this past weekend’s tournament. Tryouts for the fall season were held last night, but it's very hush-hush, so stay tuned.
