Club News & Announcements
Our most recent meeting was held on August 6 at Stoneforge and was led by President Jenn. We extended our best wishes to those celebrating birthdays and Rotary anniversaries during the month of August.
Please note: The Board meeting originally scheduled for August 11 has been postponed one week and will now take place on August 18 via Zoom. All club members are welcome. Please contact Jenn or Zulmira for the Zoom link.
We were also pleased to welcome and officially induct two new members this week!
Joining our club are Kaylyn Furtado from the Boys & Girls Club (pictured left) and Mary Myers from Morton Hospital (pictured center). We are delighted to welcome them to Rotary and look forward to working together in our shared mission of Service Above Self.
Reminder:
Final RSVPs are needed for the meeting Moose Lodge in New Bedford on September 10 at 5:30 p. m. The lodge is at 119 Rockdale Avenue, and a $5 special donation is required. Please reply to Zulmira's email so we can provide a head count.
Additionally, as we plan ahead, we are asking members to look at their calendars for availability for help with two promotion ideas:
Raynham Community Day on Sunday, September 27, 12-4 pm. We are looking for volunteers to help staff a Rotary information table and share information about our projects, programs, and impact in the community.
We are also gauging interest in participating in this year’s Taunton Christmas Parade, which will take place on Sunday, December 6. This is a great opportunity to showcase Rotary in the community and enjoy a fun holiday tradition together.
At Our Most Recent Meeting...
...Kris Silva introduced guest speaker Denise Schumiz of Greyhound Pets of America–Massachusetts, who shared information about the organization's work and its efforts to place retired racing greyhounds in loving homes.
Ms. Schumiz discussed the mission of Greyhound Pets of America, a network of 21 chapters across the United States and Canada dedicated to finding homes for retired racing greyhounds. She shared her experience as a greyhound owner and explained how the organization has adapted as greyhound racing has declined, with much of its current work involving dogs from outside the United States. It was a great presentation, and we thank Denise for joining us for lunch and for all of her good work in the community!
Happy & Sad Bucks
President Jenn was happy to be heading off on vacation next week and expressed her appreciation to John for stepping in during her absence. She also shared that both of her daughters celebrated birthdays this week.
Mike C. was happy to report that his son recently competed in a rowing regatta in Canada and earned a third-place finish.
Jody contributed a buck for Mike T., noting that he was initially surprised to see him at the meeting because he had thought Jody would be in Minnesota spending time with his family. While glad to be at the meeting, Jody was sorry he was unable to be with his family, but someone has to take care of the dogs.
Dave C. offered three bucks: two in recognition of the club's newest members and one in appreciation of our guest speaker and her presentation today.
