President's Announcements
At our July 13th meeting, Ed Fowler was in charge of his first meeting in 15 years! It was great to welcome Dave Tipping, and we continue to send him all our best thoughts and well wishes.
To begin the meeting, Ed invited up Kit Tunney for the induction ceremony of our newest member, Gloria Saddler. Welcome to the club, Gloria!
We then had two installations, Christine Kelley as a board of director member and Maureen Cody as treasurer. Thanks to them both for their continued service.
Finally, a reminder that next week's meeting with be at President Joe's home-away-from-home Camp Cachalot. From Joe:
"It is roughly a 40 minute drive from the Taunton area. The address for the camp is 1 Scouting Way Plymouth. Directions can be found here: https://goo.gl/maps/TXWTsshmEHH2 . Please note when utilizing a GPS it will want to take you on the quickest route which involves fire roads, roads that disappear, and gated roads. Rest assured you can and should stay on paved roads all the way up to our main gate, with then a crushed gravel road from there. Once you enter the Myles Standish Forest there are signs at any intersection pointing you in the direction of Camp Cachalot and Camp Squanto. Both camp entrances are about a mile from each other however Cachalot’s entrance will be first.
I will have a staff member posted at our Welcome Center to direct you into camp. We will have dinner for 6pm. We will also have our Shooting ranges, Archery, Shotgun, Rifle, and Paintball open for your enjoyment after dinner. We will have a quick board meeting following dinner."

Bob Hunt had two very happy bucks for the two wonderful visitors he got to spend time with these past two weeks.
Dave Tipping had a happy 5 bucks. He was glad to be back at a meeting and back to work after 2 months off. Two bucks were for his two successful surgeries. The fourth buck was for the invitation he has from Mass General for some immunotherapy sessions which will take care of any remaining cells that needs to be dealt with in his body. And finally, a sincere thank you buck for all of the calls, notes, cards, thoughts, and prayers from Rotarians and friends during this time. They mean a lot--and we are still sending them to you Dave!
Dick had three happy bucks. The first is a welcome to our newest member, Gloria Saddler! The second was for having just gone on his tour of Taunton/the Industrial Park with our Taunton, England visitors. Finally, he was happy to report that some of his scratch ticket winnings were able to defray costs of activities on his 49th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii.
Ed Fowler had two happy bucks, thanking Emily and Georgie for a fun two weeks that he and his family really enjoyed!
At our most recent meeting, Thursday July 13, we were pleased to welcome the two young ladies visiting from Taunton, England for lunch. Georgia Blackwell (age 20) is the granddaughter of Past President Mike Blackwell and 18-year old Emily Reeve's grandfather Alan is also a past president. These young ladies put together a charming presentation about all the things that they did during their visit with us.
A brief recap of their activities include: a trip to Salem, MA; the House of Seven Gables; Dead Horse Beach; an evening ghost tour; Newport mansion tour; PawSox baseball game; 4th of July cookout; Bridgewater fireworks; Patriot Place and CBS Scene; trip to Plymouth; Boy Scout Camp; bowling; Providence; RISD Museum; tour of Boston; lunch at Quincy Market; Water Fire; sailing; trip to Martha's Vineyard; steamers; New England Aquarium; Drive-in movie; tour of Taunton; Old Colony History Museum; good-bye cookout; and a Rotary meeting. I am exhausted just thinking about doing all of that in less than two weeks! They also had lots of good food, junk food, ice cream, and, it appears, a genuinely fun and informative trip.
Thanks to Ed, Claire, Missy, Bob & Barbara Hunt, the Kelley Family, and everyone who helped make this trip such a success.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, July 20, 2017. This will be an evening meeting at Boy Scout Camp! Joe sent these directions and mentioned that once you are in the Camp Myles Standish forest there are signs for Camp Cachalot. He plans to have the shooting ranges open, a cookout, and is hoping for one of their wonderful sunsets over the lake. Cookout starts at 6!
