Next Meeting: January 25, 2024 **At Sol de Mexico** (Jan. 19, 2024)

President Joe ran our most recent meeting this week which was held at Stoneforge.

We welcomed Kim Lavigne who was the guest of Carol Sullivan. Kim briefly introduced herself and noted that she has been associated with Carol Sullivan Real Estate for 13 years.

We also welcomed City of Taunton Assessor and Visiting

Rotarian Rick Conti, who is also a former member of

our Taunton Club.

President Joe welcomed everyone and said he was pleased

with our Club Assembly and his President's Mid-Year report held on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

President Joe reminded the Club membership that next week will be a Night Meeting at Sol de Mexico (former Olive Garden Restaurant). Upon arrival go to the back of the restaurant, reservations are in the name of Joe Mitchell and the Taunton Rotary Club. Come one, come all, and celebrate President Joe's birthday too. Ole! Margaritas anyone?

Carol Sullivan brought us up to date on local Rotary-related

articles in the news:

There was a nice article on the Old Colony History Museum

regarding local historical people past and present.

Bristol Community College made the news regarding their

Martin Luther King Day celebrations and several other

noteworthy events.

Another informative article featured the Boys & Girls Club Camp Riverside, the site of our Annual Family Fun Day.

Also highlighted were recent community donations made by Bank 5, Mechanics Cooperative Bank, and Bristol County Savings Bank who all have Rotary connections.

Lastly, the Taunton Daily Gazette did a feature article on

Dermody Cleaners 'Coats for Kids' project. Dermody Cleaner's owner and former Taunton Rotarian Terry Dermody was featured. (Carol commented that this might be a nice project for our Club to get involved with.)

...John Danahey introduced our guest speaker Chris Johnson from Isaksen Solar. Chris is the business development officer for Isaksen Solar and he is heavily involved in community activities and organizations. John stated that Chris is also an esteemed business colleague.

Chris kicked off his talk by telling a Rotary joke. On a

serious note, our speaker began by dismissing many

myths about solar energy. Solar panels can be expensive, but there are many flexible plans, including local, state and federal incentives and tax credits which make them affordable for many people. Chris did an in-depth comparison regarding the cost of electric energy versus solar power. He stated that solar panels are 91% efficient for 40 to 50 years. After covering a myriad of solar energy issues such as cost, roof installation, benefits, warranties, and benefits he summed up by saying his company helps

customers to stop paying out of pocket for borrowed electricity and to start producing and consuming electricity that they own. Chris then opened the floor for a lengthy
Q & A session with many Club members participating.

Carol Sullivan donated $5 Happy Bucks because she was happy to have Kim Lavigne as her guest.
John Danahey donated some happy bucks because his daughter is doing well in gymnastics and softball as well as other athletic endeavors. He was also pleased to have Chris Johnson from Isaksen Solar as his guest.
David Correia contributed some happy bucks in honor of his son's hockey team doing so well in recent competition and being victorious.
Joe Mitchell donated a sad buck regarding the recent passing of Willitt's father and a happy buck because his beloved Celtics have been doing exceptionally well.
Katie Venmo'd a Thankful Buck while putting together this week's Bulletin in honor of Mike Tabak to took all the notes and photos in addition to his regular Assistant Sergeant at Arms duties. Thank you, Mike!
