President Carol Sullivan began our March 23, 2017, meeting by sharing four recent articles from the Taunton Daily Gazette: Rotarians participating in the Y's Spinathon; a donation from Bridgewater Savings Bank; upcoming plans for the city-wide clean up in April which the Interact Club at THS is involved in; and Kerrie at a ribbon cutting for a new pharmaceutical company in the Industrial Park. Congrats to everyone involved in this good work.
President Carol reported that she was able to attend the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce's 100th Annual Meeting. She really enjoyed the speaker and thought it was a great event.
A reminder that we have an invitation for Rotarians to attend a Kiwanis luncheon meeting April 18th at La Familia. This will be Tuesday lunch instead of our regular Thursday meeting that week.
Our next fundraiser is under way! We are selling raffle tickets and all Rotarians are encouraged to pick up some tickets from the Sergeant-at-Arms desk and start selling. This fundraiser will run through Pancake and Family Fun Day in June.
This past Saturday President Carol attended a Rotary Leadership Institute. She particularly enjoyed a seminar by Satya Mitra Speaking on "My Rotary World," pictured below:
Linda Q. shared a flyer announcing that Bethany House's Open House will be held April 27th from 4 to 6 p.m. All are invited to attend.
Members present signed a thank you note to send to the students and administrators at BP who helped with the creation of our new podium.
Finally, the latest Interact Board meeting was 3/23 after school. Thanks to Will for attending.
Did you know that your happy and sad bucks help the club make a donation to the Rotary Foundation?
Stephanie M. had 3 bucks. The first was a happy buck for the TACC Annual Meeting and all of Kerrie's hard work. The second was a thank you buck for all of the spinathon participants. This year saw great business support, and the Y's fundraising campaign is already off to a great start. Finally, the third buck was a sad buck to announce that Lucy is moving to Ipswich and will be leaving the Taunton Y. She will be joining the Beverly Y, but we will miss her and wish her all the best in her new role.
Joe L. had two happy bucks. The first was for recently attending his PETS training, which was both fun and informative. The second was for his recent work trip to Texas, from where Mark Nelson sends his regards to the club.
Will M. had 15 happy bucks! The first two were for his guests today. The other 13 represent the 13.2 miles he ran while completing his first half-marathon in New Bedford last weekend. He achieved his goal and is already looking for the next one to sign up for. Congrats Will on a great accomplishment!
Ed F. shared a happy buck to thank our two guests for the wonderful care his mother received at The Arbors before she passed.
Dave C. had a sad buck for Lucy leaving but a happy buck for Will.
Phil also had two bucks. He was sad to miss last week's meeting but happy to be back from Montreal.
Johnny B. has three "welcome back" bucks for Phil, Dick, and Joe.
Dick S. had a happy buck to be home again after a trip to Costa Rica. He did some adventuring touring, including ziplining! He also had a happy buck for Will joining the board of SEED Corp, on the Loan Review Committee.
Dan L. had a sad buck for Lucy leaving the club. He had a happy buck for Joe's recent trip to PETS and enthusiasm for his upcoming Rotary year. He had happy bucks for the TACC Annual Meeting, the Y's spinathon, Will's half marathon, and, after early tabulations, the most successful spelling bee yet for TASC.
At our most recent meeting, Thursday, March 23, 2017, Will Mendonca was the Program Chair. Will arranged for Sarah Bruce of Boys Town New England to present to the club. Sarah spoke to the group about her work with Boys Town New England, an organization which just celebrated its 25th year serving children and healing families throughout New England. Sarah wanted the dissuade the group of any negative stereotypes of foster families that they may have, and educate about the need for more fosters and advocates in the community.
