President's Announcements
Past President Carol Sullivan filled in for President Joe Livingston and opened our July 27th meeting by ringing the Rotary Bell at 12:10 PM. Newly elected President Joe will be at the Boy Scout Camp for the next couple of weeks so Past President Carol Sullivan will preside until President Joe’s return.
Carol announced that she and Rich Volkmann are the Program Chairs for this year. All Club members will be assigned a week where they are responsible to arrange for a speaker/program. Upon receipt of the “speaker schedule” please let Carol or Rich know if the week assigned to you is okay. If you have a conflict please notify Carol and Rich so they can switch your week to accommodate you and your speaker.
Next Carol passed around a front page article about the Old Colony History Museum’s mini golf course on Church Green.
Past President Carol apologized for missing the farewell cookout for our two exchange girls from Taunton, England, Georgie and Emily. She thanked everyone who helped out with the exchange program, especially Ed and Claire Fowler and Bob and Barbara Hunt for hosting the farewell party. Carol said she had a wonderful time with the girls at the PawSox and at Patriot Place.
Carol thanked President Joe Livingston for hosting our Rotary meeting and the Board of Director’s meeting at Camp Cachalot. Joe gave us a tour and then provided the Rotarians attending a wonderful Pre-Thanksgiving dinner in the Boy Scout’s dining hall.
Carol explained how busy Joe was managing a camp that encompasses 70 acres of land, supervising a staff of 57 camp counselors, and being responsible for hundreds of Boy Scout campers each week, while overseeing a budget of over $1 Million. Keep up the good work Joe and we hope to see you back soon.

Did you know that your happy and sad bucks help the club make a donation to the Rotary Foundation?
Kit Tunney contributed a Happy Buck to thank President Joe Livingston for hosting the weekly Rotary meeting and the monthly Board of Director’s meeting at Camp Cachalot in Plymouth.
Dan LeBrun had a Sad and Happy Buck. One Said Buck because he missed a Rotary meeting but a Happy Buck because he was Happy to be in New Hampshire for a great music and folk festival.
Joe Mitchell donated some Happy Bucks because he was glad to be back with us after a wonderful vacation in Portugal.
Ed Fowler contributed some Happy Bucks to thank everyone who helped out with the Taunton, England exchange program. Ed said Georgie and Emily had a great time visiting with us. Ed distributed post cards from the girls that they sent to all their hosts thanking them for making their trip to America such a wonderful experience.
At our most recent meeting, Thursday July 27 Kit Tunney was the program chair for the day and she introduced our newest member Glorida Sadler. Gloria gave her classification talk and spoke about her role as the Director of BCC’s Taunton campus.
Gloria is originally from New York and then moved to Boston. She is married and has three children, the oldest being 29 years old. Gloria is a proud grandmother with ten grandchildren. Early on Gloria was a stay at home mom who helped manage the family business. When her children got older Gloria ventured into the world of Education by beginning her career as a secretary at BCC in Fall River. Today she is the Director of the BCC Taunton Campus.
Gloria gave us a brief history of BCC in Taunton, from Friedman School to TCMS to the new campus at the Silver City Galleria. She is very proud how she expanded BCC in Taunton from roughly 38 students to over 1,000 full and part time students. Taunton’s BCC now offers over 90 different classes with 9 college degree programs and 5 certificate programs. Presently there are 600 students enrolled in degree programs, 300 is certificate and GED programs, and 200 in a CNA program. Offerings vary from General Management degrees to Human Service degrees to Casino training programs. Gloria’s goal is to move students out in 2 to 3 years. A Rotoract Club is also planned at BCC under Gloria’s supervision.
Gloria finished her very informative talk by holding a Q & A session. Thank you Gloria for a wonderful classification talk.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Stoneforge at 12:10 p.m. Stephanie has invited Cheryl Hayes from Longmeadow Nursing Home to enjoy lunch with us. Cheryl will also be our program speaker to let us know about herself and about Longmeadow.
