John B was happy that tonight (8/11) is the start of the football season with the first Patriots preseason game. He is sad that it will be 104 degrees for the game.
Dick S. was happy that tomorrow is the opening of the redesigned Dever Drive entrance to Myles Standish Industrial Park. All are welcome to attend the opening at 9 a.m. and to stay for the dedication of the memorial garden in honor of the late mayor Charles Crowley.
Dan L. had a dollar because he was sad to miss last week's meeting, but also happy that the reason was to attend SoulFest at Gunstock, which was great.
Christine had a dollar to let people know about the Chamber's cruise night tonight (the 11th) leaving from the Flea at 4 p.m. She also had a reminder buck for the Boy Scout's fundraiser next Thursday (the 18th) at Occassions. And lots of happy bucks for the experience we are about to see with our speakers' presentation.
At the August 11th meeting, Ed Fowler was the program chair. Ed gave an update on a past student who visited us from Taunton, England, who has faced some health issues as of late. When training for the London Marathon she started having health issues which revealed a hole in her heart. She had open heart surgery at the age of 23 and is now fundraising as a means of giving back to the doctors and nurses who took such good care of her. She also plans to run the marathon as soon as she is able. Ed then welcomed Molly and Carolan who showed a video of images taken while visiting England. Highlights included milking a cow, the view from the London Eye, seeing A Midsummer's Night Dream in Stratford-Upon-Avon, and sleeping in a cave for a night. They seemed to have genuinely enjoyed their experience and willingly answering some questions from the crowd.
For this week's meeting Carol Sullivan is the program chair and she has arranged for Michelle Pelletier, an Employment Coordinator, to present to the club.
