Following a rare snow day (!), President Carol Sullivan began our February 16, 2017 meeting with an update from the Interact Club. Debbie Logan reported that she has three kids interested in RYLA and that the group is excited for a dinner meeting with the Rotary Club. The board and President Carol will be working to find a good date in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
Carol also saved and passed around an article in The Taunton Daily Gazette highlighting the AHS early intervention program. Great to see!
President-Elect Joe L. and President Carol attended Pre-PETS recently. They both learned a lot and were particularly inspired by the keynote speaker. It was great to hear that this was worthwhile and energizing for both.
The entire club wanted to reiterate a big "thank you" to all who helped make the Million Dollar Meal a great success. We recognize that it is a lot of work and appreciate all the efforts of the team that makes it happen.
Rich V. and Carol are working on setting the speaker schedule through the rest of the Rotary year. Please check the website to see which date you are responsible for, and let Rich or Carol know as soon as you have someone interested in speaking. We can also adjust if your speaker has another date available but want to be sure that we don't overlap. If you have any questions, please ask!
The date of the February board meeting is February 16 at 5:30 at Kit's office. All are invited to attend and all board members are expected to attend.
Finally, the club received some sad news this week: Dave Tipping's mother passed away. We send our sincere condolences to Dave and his family during this difficult time.

Harry Rose had five very happy bucks to be back after three weeks in and out of the hospital. He wanted to share a very positive review of all of the treatment he received at Morton Hospital, and also sincere thanks for the card from the club members. So great to see you back Harry!
Johnny B was very happy that he had the opportunity to reveal himself as a prophet a few weeks ago. Chatting with a very depressed young New England Patriots fan who had watched the team limp their way to a measly performance of 3-28 with only a quarter and a half to play, Johnny the Prophet told the young fan that he should stop being depressed. He was about to witness the single greatest sporting achievement in history, led by the greatest football player (athlete? human?) who was about to lead the greatest comeback in Superbowl history. For that prophecy Johnny the Prophet contributed not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5 happy bucks to tell this tale at Rotary in honor of the Patriots' 5th Superbowl championship.
Stephanie M. was happy to send a personal save-the-date for YMCA fundraising Kickoff Breakfast on March 3 at 8 a.m. It is an hour-long, free, hot breakfast, and Rotary is always well represented.
Joe L. was happy to formally receive the promotion for the work he has been doing, as Director of his BSA service area. He also shared Carol's thoughts on the Pre-PETS training and enjoyed the keynote speaker.
President Carol was happy to see Harry back. She also had four more bucks to clear her Happy Buck debts!
Dan L. was happy that the Feb. 16 meeting was in support of the TASC Spelling Bee, on March 8. He also shared a happy buck for his sweet Valentine, who got him a personal deep dish pizza on Valentine's Day because she knows it is his favorite!
At our most recent meeting, Thursday, February 16, 2017, we held the Rotary Spelling Bee. Despite some fierce competition from all the teams, the team led by Jeff Walker, Johnny B, and Al Mendes (our guest) won the day with a PERFECT 10/10 performance. Negotiations then ensued for who will represent the club, and negotiations are ongoing, but we are confident that the Rotary Club of Taunton will be well represented!
Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 23,2017, and Stephanie Mancini will be the Program Chair. She has arranged for Sandy Bromberg, Director of Adult programs at the Old Colony YMCA to present to the club.
