At our most recent meeting, Kit Tunney arranged for a presentation by representatives of Morton Hospital. The Club welcomed Deborah Bitsoli, President of Morton Hospital; Emilio Belaval, MD, FAAEM, Chief of Emergency Services; Jacquie Martin, MSN, RN, Patient Care Director, Critical Care; and Julie Masci, Director of Marketing, Public Affairs & Community Health Programs. Deborah, Emilio, and Jacquie shared their reasons for taking on leadership roles at Morton Hospital, their vision for the future of the emergency department in particular, and some of the successes they have achieved in recent months. It was interesting to learn that the Morton Hospital Emergency Department sees an average of 140 visitors a day and around 56,000 visitors each year. They are working to shorten the wait time before a patient sees a doctor, and this is best done by redesigning flow operations. The goal is always to maintain patient care excellence but reduce the amount of time waiting for tests or having a patient take a bed who instead needs to go have an x-ray. Thanks to Kit for arranging and to our presenters for joining us! |
