Club News & Announcements

Our most recent meeting was held on July 22 at Stoneforge and led by President Jenn. We welcomed Jack Geilil, an insurance agent from Easton, who was curious about Rotary as a guest to our meeting.

Please check your emails for a message from Club Secretary Zulmira asking for an RSVP for an Area Club Assembly. This year we will not have a district governor visit strictly for our club but rather join an area assembly at the Moose Lodge in New Bedford on September 10 at 5:30 p. m.  The lodge is at 119 Rockdale Avenue, and a $5 special donation is required. Please reply to Zulmira's email so we can provide a head count. Also, there may be special shirts or hats for the occasion.

Additionally, as we plan ahead, we are asking members to look at their calendars for availability for help with two promotion ideas:
  • We have an opportunity to showcase our club and our new marketing materials at Raynham Community Day on Sunday, September 27, 12-4 pm. We are looking for volunteers to help staff a Rotary information table and share information about our projects, programs, and impact in the community.

  • We are also gauging interest in participating in this year’s Taunton Christmas Parade, which will take place on Sunday, December 6. This is a great opportunity to showcase Rotary in the community and enjoy a fun holiday tradition together.

Please note that the Bulletin Editor would like to extend her thanks to the Assistant Bulletin Editor for ensuring the timely sharing of this week's news!

At Our Most Recent Meeting...

...we held a club assembly, a brainstorming session for ideas for priorities for President Jen’s term.  Items for discussion included membership recruitment, improving our social media presence by expanding to LinkedIn and Instagram, a system for follow-up with our scholarship winners to keep them interested in the Rotary movement, including making them Friends of Rotary, creating a Rotary monument, like a traffic island display or a public bench, and more visible community and international projects.

Happy & Sad Bucks
Former City Solicitor David Gay passed away last week and that was the subject of many happy/sad bucks.

  • Carol Souza, who worked with David at City Hall, led off with a sad buck for his loss and another for forgetting her leftover barbecue ribs from the previous meeting.
  • Ed Fowler reminisced about being a partner with David in the ownership of radio station WPEP. Mike Tanaka, who was David’s classmate at James Coyle High School recalled that in one of their classes, the brother teaching them told the class to look at David and declared that he was the only one who would amount to anything.
Other happy bucks included:
  • John Dennehy for the return of a former partner to his business.
  • Julie Ochs for qualifying for over 55 housing.
  • Our guest Jack for experiencing Rotary
  • and Carol Sullivan for Jack’s presence.
This Week's Winners:

Carol Souza won the scratch ticket this week.
