Next Meeting: September 16

Some reminders about upcoming events:
  • Our District Celebration and Installation will be taking place September 18 at SeaCrest Beach Hotel in Falmouth.
  • Also on September 18, we have a table at the VFW's 100th celebration for anyone who would like to attend a more local event that day. Dan has 8 tickets for club members, and you can reach out to him if you would like one.
  • Our Assistant District Governor, Paula Raposa, will be visiting on 9/23.
  • The "Family Feud-style" fundraiser at the Elks has been rescheduled for September 26 at noon.
  • Finally, our own 100th Anniversary celebration was 7 weeks from our most recent meeting!
Immediately following this week's meeting, on 9/16, there will be a Board Meeting. Everyone is invited to attend, and board members are encouraged to attend so that we are able to have a quorum.

We are still looking for speakers. If you know of someone working on an interesting project, developing a service project in our community, or who is just a great speaker on a local topic, we'd be interested in scheduling a presentation for an upcoming meeting. You can reach out to Zulmira or Bob if you have someone in mind.

We decided to have no meeting on Veterans Day.

And we were able to wish a Happy Birthday to Will as our meeting took place on his actual birthday!

At our most recent meeting...

(My apologies for saying this happened last week, but it did happen this week!)
President Bob led a discussion around the topic of "Should Self Interest Motivate Service?"  We watched this video of Rotarian Patrick Galvin which led to a good discussion about how we present ourselves in the community. In order to grow our club, should we tout our accomplishments or the personal benefits we, and anyone, can receive when we volunteer our service? A lot of organizations are facing similar challenges and this was a good start in talking more about membership and growing our club.

Happy/Sad Bucks

Joe Mitchell had a buck because he promised himself that if he remembers to bring something about the Foundation to the meeting he'll give a happy buck.

John D. had 5 happy dollars. He gave an update that his second business is moving along with paperwork and approvals. He is developing an SBA-supported, veteran-owned business to do 3rd party certification that, by 2025, will be required for any contract work with the DOD. He shared a bit about his vision for future, which is to work with local students in training programs to prepare them for this field.

Will gave an Interact buck from his daughters who report that "Recruitment efforts are underway and going well."

Dick gave a buck in support of the Taunton River Festival which returns on Sunday!

Ed had a buck to continue to congratulate Dan on his great work promoting the club's 100th year.
