Announcements

Next week Andrew Dawley from CCBC will be joining us to tell us about "Pandemic Challenges to Delivering Mental Health Services," and the following week will be a two-part meeting. First, we'll have an overview of a Letter Writing Campaign by Bristol Elders Services. Then we will end our last 2020 Rotary meeting with a holiday mini-concert.

A reminder that the Rotary Express will have Santa (Joe Livingston) deliver gifts to 15-20 Head Start families when he visits 6-8 local homes between 5:00 - 6:30 PM on December 17. If you would like to contribute to the holiday gifts you may send a check or make your contribution on Venmo @Rotary-Taunton.

Reminder December's Rotary's board meeting next week on 12/10.

Interact Update: Interact Food Drive's drop off date is December 8th 2:00 - 2:45 p.m. in the back parking lot near the baseball field. Single packets or single-serving items would be appreciated. Hygiene items, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, feminine products, etc. Help share the @Tigers_Ineract on Twitter - help promote the drive!

At our most recent meeting...

Jody shared some more history with us at our most recent meeting, on the date that would have been our 2020 holiday celebration at Taunton High School. Jody's very first Rotary meeting was at the age of 13 and it happened to be the holiday celebration. Our holiday celebration luncheon at Taunton High School did not begin in the 1980s. Rotary began hosting meetings at the Taunton Hotel located on the Green on the corner of Broadway. That building was destroyed by fire and the new structure is now the Marian Manor Nursing Home. At one time Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions met at the YMCA. When the hotel was sold the club moved to the Pilgrim Congregational Church, by the 90s the club moved to Segregansett Country Club but many found it to be distant and continuous changes in chefs made it difficult for an affordable price. That's when we found our current location to host meetings Stoneforge!

Did you know that one of the longest traditions our club has that has lasted over 70 years is singing! In 1921, when the club started our song was not God Bless America but My Country 'Tis of Thee and we had our own R.O.T.A.R.Y song.
