From the President

President Joe welcomed everyone to Rotary with a special shout out to Debbie Logan and the 15 THS Interact members.

President Joe explained to the Interact Club members present some of the things our Club accomplishes during the Rotary year, such as: The Headstart children's Christmas Party; donating 400 student back packs along with the YMCA; hosting a Youth Exchange program with the Taunton, England Club; co-hosting the Splash of Spring with Pro-Home, Inc.; raising funds for local causes and charities; supporting the Shelter Box project and; working with Rotary International on Clean Water projects.

FOUNDATION MINUTE: President Joe introduced Past President Joe Mitchell who is our Club's new Foundation chair replacing Phil Robertson. Joe Mitchell told us that RI Foundation has assets in excess of $3 Billion US. The RI Foundation is supported by 36,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide, Rotaract Clubs and Interact Clubs. Major Foundation efforts involve the Polio Plus Campaign, Peace initiatives and Institutes, Education, Health, Shelter Box program, Community involvement, and Clean Water Projects, to name a few.

Please note: A Celebration of the life of Philip S. Robertson will be held this Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 45 Broadway, Taunton, MA with a reception to follow downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.

Last Week's Speaker

At our most recent meeting, on March 29, 2018 the club welcomed 15 members of the Taunton High School Interact club. Two Officers from the Interact Club spoke to our Club about what they have been involved with this year:

1) Disaster Relief aid for Puerto Rico's hurricane victims in the form of donated clothes, supplies, books, etc.

2) Recycling plastic bags to make sleeping mats for the homeless.

3) Raised money to support the Shelter Box program.

4) Collected items and sent packages to US Armed Forces at Christmas, and

5) Wrote welcome notes to new students to make them feel at home at their new school(s).

President Joe thanked them for all the wonderful things they have accomplished.

Happy Bucks

Did you know that your happy and sad bucks help the club make a donation to the Rotary Foundation?

•   Joe Mitchell donated some Happy Bucks: For Debbie Logan and the Interact Club, for the Boston Celtics and their continued success, and for the distinct honor of replacing long time Rotarian Phil Robertson as RI Foundation Chair.
•   John Beauchaine contributed $3 Happy Bucks: Happy to see so many youngsters from the THS Interact Club present, and for the nice evening meeting with cocktails. Also, $1 Happy Buck for Joe Livingston's birthday. Jokes all around.
•   Dan LeBrun contributed some Happy Buck to thank Past President Joe Mitchell for stepping up to the plate to become our new RI Foundation Chair replacing Phil Robertson. Dan was pleased to see that some of the THS Interact members are also members of his Church music ministry.
•   Ed Fowler gave $5 to thank the Interact Club for giving back to their community.
•   President Joe Livingston donated $5 Happy Bucks because he will be turning 31 shortly and he will be heading out on a road trip to Colorado where he will be stopping at a few NHL venues. $1 Happy Buck to Thank the Interact Club for all the wonderful things they are doing and will be doing in the future.
