At Our Most Recent Meeting...

...Past President George Mendros introduced our speaker, Mayor Shaunna O'Connell. Mayor O'Connell shared updates on city initiatives and her vision for the future.

She highlighted the city's strong financial position and an emphasis on teamwork across all government services to increase efficiency and progress. A recent focus has been on community development in the form of:

  • Paving, sidewalks, park renovations
  • Cleanup of blighted properties & creation of new outdoor spaces
  • Business marketing grant launched with NeighborWorks
  • Murals to beautify the city
She mentioned economic growth, highlighting ribbon-cuttings nearly every week with the Chamber of Commerce, and the benefits of job creation, increased revenue, and improved services that come with the new businesses. She mentioned several new housing developments that have been approved and continued focus on affordable housing in the future.

She spoke of her efforts to support residents with programs such as free trash bags for seniors and almost monthly free trash days. Looking ahead, there is a veterans’ housing announcement in development, the new public safety facility to open soon, and a fire station replacement program about to commence. She also highlighted efforts to resolve a water fee problem for residents of manufactured homes.

Mayor O’Connell reminded us that local government is ultimately about helping people. We appreciate her sharing the city’s progress and exciting plans for the future!

  • John had an excited buck for Callum who is on track to be coming home in three weeks, and is now over 4 lbs! He had a buck for a great time in New Hampshire with the FBI. Finally, a happy buck to have been invited to speak on cyber security at the Veteran Business Outreach Center.
  • Carol Souza had a Happy Buck to be back after missing a few weeks.
  • Bob Hunt had five bucks, happy and sad: for a friend who passed away; for celebrating his 61st wedding anniversary, and for approaching his 49th Rotary anniversary.
  • Mayor O’Connell had a Happy Buck to be at our meeting. She had a second Happy Buck looking forward to a long weekend, and both daughters being home.
  • Carol Sullivan had a Happy Buck for the Mayor joining us today, and an excited buck to be visiting Meghan in Vermont this weekend.
  • George was Happy for the Mayor being here and glad Carol Souza is back.
  • Jody had a Happy Buck for another trip around the sun.
