President Carol introduced Linda Quinn from TASC. Linda spoke briefly about her roles at TASC and Marian Manor and said she was very happy to be with us.
Carol announced that the 56 High Sierra backpacks were in and are stored with Christine Kelly at Occasions waiting to be filled with donated items. President Carol thanked a number of organizations and businesses that donated items for the backpacks such as Staples, Walmart, W.B. Masons, Pride, AHS, etc. We are still in need of items and cash donations to buy items to top off the backpacks. Young people from the Teen Center will help fill the backpacks--thanks to them!
Carol reminded board members that the Club’s Board of Directors will meet Thursday evening at 5:00 pm at Maureen Cody’s home in Lakeville.
President Carol also mentioned that our Club received Thank You notes from the following organizations: from Stephanie at the YMCA, Shelter Box, from Katie MacDonald at the Old Colony History Museum, and from Bill Corbett at CO-Operative Productions.

Dick Shafer informed us that Mike Almeida from Davol Taunton Printing/Future Graphics will be donating items for the Back Pack project too. Dick also touted the Downtown concert and Classic Auto Show featuring the musical group Dale and The Duds. Shafe said he would see to it that the Rotary chairs would be there for attendees. At last week's meeting, Phil Robertson gave a chronological accounting of the Rotary International Foundation’s 100 year history beginning with the first 50 years. In 1917 the first contribution to the Rotary Foundation was made in the amount of $21.60. This week Phil will give us a recap of the second 50 years of the Foundation’s history. The 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Rotary Foundation will be at the International Convention to be held in Atlanta, GA.
At the July 28th meeting, President Carol Sullivan was the program chair and she welcomed our speaker, Sadra Wright. Sandra is a resident of Bridgewater and has been a public servant for over 20 years. She was elected to the Bridgewater Board of Health in 2002. Sandra worked a the Halifax Fire Department for 15 years as a firefighter and an EMT, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She also worked at the Goodard Memorial Hospital in the ER Department for 18 years. In 2010 she was elected as a Plymouth County Commissioner and presently holds that position. Sandra went into some detail about themyriad of duties of a Plymouth County Commissioner and why she is proud to hold that position. It is an 8 AM to 9 PM job trying to do what is best for her constituents.She talked about the motivational forces in her life that lead her to a life of service to others. Sandra also has been teaching at the Mass Maritime Academy since 1993. After her talk Sandra held a Q & A from the members present.
