Club News & Announcements

It was Jennifer Oldfield's first meeting as Rotary President, and we all sang God Bless America! with a little more spirit in honor of the occassion.

President Oldfield shared highlights from a successful Ward 5 gathering and reminded members that annual dues, along with May and June billing statements, have been distributed.

Birthday wishes were extended to Carol Sullivan and Julie Ochs, who are celebrating July birthdays.

The Club also received thank-you notes from Corbin Melo and School on Wheels in appreciation of Rotary's support.

Finally, members were reminded that the next Board Meeting will be held on July 14 at 5:15 p.m. on Zoom.

At Our Most Recent Meeting...

...Family Fun Day Chair Dave provided a wrap-up of this year's Family Fun Day, which was a tremendous success.

The event saw its best attendance yet, enjoyed ideal weather, and achieved its highest fundraising total to date, surpassing the Club's goal of $20,000.

Highlights included:
  • At least 800 attendees.
  • Food sales grossed approximately $1,400 and had amazing volunteers John D. and Christine Kelley to thank for that.
  • Event net proceeds totaled $19,462.
Dave also noted several challenges to consider for future planning, including shuttle logistics and the need for additional volunteers.

Looking ahead to next year's event, scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2027, members were encouraged to consider several questions:
  • Should the Club explore a new band after hosting the same group for three consecutive years?
  • Should food service continue, given the significant volunteer commitment required? The Club will need an internal volunteer with ServSafe and allergen awareness certification if food service is to continue. We think we can make a profit from this, but it is a lot of work and would need someone to take it on.

As an additional promotional idea, Dave suggested participating in the Taunton Christmas Parade on December 7, potentially handing out hot chocolate packets with information about Family Fun Day attached. Stay tuned for more details!

Dave offered his thanks to all the volunteers, and we send it right back to you, Dave!

Happy & Sad Bucks
  • Katie had a happy $10 for the Paul Harris recognition, an additional happy $5 with congratulations to Dave again for a successful Family Fun Day, finally a sad $5 to miss the celebrations at the Ward 5 Club.
  • Carol Sullivan had a Happy Buck for a great Ward 5 event.
  • Dave had a buck for his upcoming vacation next week!
  • Will offered congratulations to Jenn and shared a Buck for Sarah, who recently returned from a May semester studying physical therapy in London. She had a great time, saw lots of Rotary signs, and came back with a newfound appreciation for air conditioning!
