 President's Announcements

Past President Carol Sullivan filled in for President Joe Livingston and opened our August 10th meeting by ringing the Rotary Bell at 12:10 PM. President Joe will be back this week.

Carol reminded the club that she and Rich Volkmann are the Program Chairs for this year. All dues-paying Club members will be assigned a week where they are responsible to arrange for a speaker/program. Please arrange for a speaker on the date you are assigned. If you have a conflict please notify Carol and Rich so they can switch your week to accommodate you and your speaker.

Guest Charlene Fiore reminded the group about the Church at the Park effort which collects and distributes clothing, food, and school supplies to those in need. The Rotary Club is combining it's backpack program with this effort, and all Rotarians are asked to  to bring in school supplies so that we can help fill the backpacks. The 11th annual Church at the Park event will beheld August 19th 11:30-4 at Memorial Park. Donated materials can be brought to this week's meeting or dropped off at Memorial Church. Anyone who is able to volunteer at the event itself, please talk to Charlene or Pres Joe.

Carol announced that the club will be making it's donation to the School Committee, towards medical ID bracelets, soon.

Joanne announced PRIDE's Meat-on-a-Stick fundraiser will be August 25th.

Linda announced that the Diocesan Golf Classic fundraiser will be held on August 31st and she is selling raffle tickets for anyone who is interested.

Happy & Sad Bucks

Did you know that your happy and sad bucks help the club make a donation to the Rotary Foundation?

  • Linda Quinn had happy bucks for seeing Dave Tipping, and her family vacation next week. She added two sad bucks for missing the next two weeks due to that vacation. She was sad that her speaker had a family emergency and couldn't be with us. She was happy for the upcoming raffle to support Marian Manor. She was happy that she met three people recently, all of whom may be good Rotary speakers. Jeff wouldn't let her stop there, so he coaxed one more happy buck into the bowl for good luck.
  • Joanne was happy that her golf tournament was a huge success. She was also sad that she is going on vacation and will miss the next two weeks.
  • Dan L. was sad for missing last week, while he was at SoulFest. He had a happy buck for being back and for having lunch with Dave Tipping.
  • Harry Rose had a happy buck to be having lunch with Dave Tipping.
  • Dick S. was happy to be going to the Red Sox game on the 22nd, though sad that is means he can't go to Rotary PawSox that night. He had a sad buck for the recent loss of Debbie Whalon, a truly good person.
  • Dave Tipping had a buck for an update on his health. He has 12 weeks of immunotherapy starting on 8/11, so we won't see him at lunch for a bit. He is a perfect candidate for this treatment, which has had cases of tremendous success. We all applaud his positive attitude, and will be thinking of him over the next 12 weeks, sending all of our good thoughts his way.
