President Carol Sullivan was back from a very nice two-week vacation. Thanks to Past President Joe Mitchell for presiding over the last two meetings, and every one else who helped out as well.
Christine and Carol have inventoried the items donated for the backpack project. Thanks to Occasions for helping with storage. This week, there will be local teens helping to fill the backpacks to earn community service hours. The backpacks will then be distributed to those who need them at the Boys and Girls Club, the Y, and the Mathew 25:40 Mission at First Parish Church.
A Board Meeting was held Thursday, August 18 at 5:30 at AHS, 68 Allison Avenue, Taunton.
A reminder that Tuesday (tonight!) August 23rd is Rotary PawSox night. Rotary members and their families get to go out on the field and be introduced. Ed F. was happy for another successful year of the Taunton Youth Exchange program. He is looking forward to hosting two kids from England next summer and is always happy to work with anyone who wants to join in on this project. Ed had a second happy dollar for having recently taken his two grandkids on their first fishing excursion.
Joanne had a happy buck for a successful golf tournament. She had a second for a recent ribbon cutting to commemorate a partnership with Bristol Elder Services. And finally, 3 very great happy bucks for her father's successful open heart surgery.
Joe L. had a happy buck in anticipation of a successful wine and beer fundraiser tonight (the 18th). And four very happy bucks for his newest nephew, who was born this past Sunday. Congrats!
Dick S. was happy to have celebrated the road opening of Dever Drive and dedication of the Charles E. Crowley Memorial Garden last week. While temperatures were hot, it kept the speeches short and sweet!
Dan L. had a happy buck for his new job at AHS and the 50 graduates of the Youth Works program who had a great summer this year. He had a second happy buck for celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary this month.
Phil had a happy buck to celebrate his own 40th anniversary of joining Rotary. Congrats Phil and all of the other anniversaries and birthdays this month!
At the August 18th meeting, Carol Sullivan was the program chair. Carol arranged for Michelle Pelletier, the employment coordinator of Community Counseling of Bristol County (CCBC) to speak to the group. Carol contacted Michelle after reading an article in the Taunton Daily Gazette, in which Michelle had discussed her organization's approach to combating the stigmas of mental illness and the successes they have had in working with this underserved population. We were pleased to welcome Michelle and two of her colleagues to our meeting and appreciate the good and challenging work that they do.
For this week's meeting Joe Mitchell is the program chair and he has arranged for Bianca Martin, a Family Intake Specialist at Triumph Inc. Head Start in Taunton to present to the club.
