Club News & Announcements
From the President
At our most recent meeting on August 16, 2018 President Joe Livingston shared the news of the recent passing of A. Werner Horlbeck, a past president of the Taunton Rotary Club. Werner was the president of ICI Americas chemical firm located in Dighton and belonged to our club for nearly forty years.  He served as president of the club in 2004-2005, after retiring from ICI.  He was active in the Rehoboth community and was a very involved grandfather.  His winning smile and his speech influenced by his German parents will be sorely missed. His obituary can be found here. We send our thoughts and prayers to Werner's family and friends.

Our project at Marian Manor, postponed due to snow in February, will be held October 11.  We are also tentatively scheduled for a day at P. R. I. D. E. on October 4.

Joe has sent the schedule of events for the Rotary Year via email. Please note the date you have been assigned and do your best to invite an engaging speaker to present to the club.

The meeting on August 23rd will be a social, evening event.  We'll meet at the Jockey Club starting at 5:30pm. Rotary will buy a round of drinks and some appetizers for those Rotarians who are able to join us. Please join us to celebrate our upcoming Rotary year and share in some good Rotary fellowship.

This week we welcomed:
  • John Dannehy of the new business Nerds to Go attended as a guest and as a prospective member.
Last Week's Speaker
At our most recent meeting, David Simons and John Keller of Citizens Climate Lobby spoke to the club about climate change.  Temperature is expected to rise three degrees Celsius by 2100, with sea levels rising six feet.  Carbon dioxide of the power of four Hiroshima bombs is generated every second.  They spoke of plans for a bipartisan scheme to impose taxes on carbon consumption to be rebated evenly among the population.  This is currently working in British Columbia, with improvements to the economy. Thanks to David and John for their informative presentation.
