Club News & Announcements

Our most recent club meeting was held on May 7 at Stoneforge and led by President Bob Rezendes. We were pleased to welcome Amy Briggs, from Bristol County Savings Bank, who joined as Jackie's guest. We wished a happy birthday to George Mendros and Dave Tipping, who share a birthday on May 8.

Reminders:
  • Together with the Rotary Club of the Bridgewaters, we will have a table at the Taunton River Festival on June 14. We need volunteers at the table, so if you are free and able to volunteer, let Bob know.

At Our Most Recent Meeting...

...Dave held a planning meeting for Family Fun Day, which is now less than 30 days away! Fundraising has reached $18,825--the highest amount ever! We have one week to reach our $20,000 goal.

New this year, we received a
n accessibility grant through the Mass Office of Outdoor Recreation, which will help to cover a number of our expenses and keep more of our sponsorship dollars available to support the community.

We had a robust discussion about food. John is leading this effort. He has put in requests for donations. It was suggested we may need to add a vegetarian option to the menu. We will need volunteers to handle the money as well as take orders and hand out food. We may add some drinks and potato chips as well.

It's go-time for marketing the event. We will send a flyer to the schools. The Boys and Girls Club is going to send a flyer through their network. If you are on social media, like and share our event and flyer. Spread the word!

Other updates:
  • Mechanics Bank is going to serve as the overflow parking lot this year.
  • Dave has put up flyers around the community. If you know of a place or have a place to add a flyer, please print from here and do so!
  • Luka B is going to donate 10 new lawn signs this year
  • Volunteers are needed! A sign-up sheet will begin to be circulated at meetings, so please look for that.
  • A reminder to wear your "Rotarian At Work" t-shirt.
Thanks to Dave for all his great work on this. And thanks to all the Rotarians who are getting ready to put on another fabulous Rotary Family Fun Day!

Happy & Sad Bucks

  • Jackie shared 3 happy bucks: happy to be here, happy to have Amy with her as a guest, and happy to see George.
  • Carol Sullivan said she was happy to see Jackie and Amy.
  • Dave C. thanked everyone for coming today and shared that his older son turned 16 this past Saturday, noting how quickly time flies. He was also happy to see Amy, who trained him at his first job.
  • John D. gave 10 bucks, including 5 sad bucks in memory of a soldier who died unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. He said it was an honor to give the eulogy and was glad that 20 people attended, giving everyone a chance to reconnect and share contacts, so that is the 5 happy from a sad situation.
  • George said he was happy to celebrate Dave Tipping’s birthday, even if Dave is getting older.
  • Mike C. thanked Dave for all the work he does and shared an info buck for next week’s gala for Co-op. He mentioned he is building a Rotary table, appreciated everyone’s support, and noted that tickets are still available.
  • Dick shared a sad buck after someone crashed into the monument sign at Myles Standish Industrial Park. He also noted that TDC approved an office manager scholarship in memory of Judy Cleathro, who passed away last week after 43 years at TDC.
  • Will said he was happy to have Jackie and Amy as partners at BCSB. He shared that Sarah is home through Monday night before leaving Wednesday for London for seven weeks, and also mentioned that "Hurricane Julia" arrives home Saturday.
  • Ed gave a buck for Judy and shared that he learned Lou has been bidding against him on Taunton bank notes. He was happy to recently acquire two rare notes, which he had just picked up at the Post Office before the meeting.
